This landmark in American history is memorialized at the former Monroe Elementary School, one of Topeka’s four segregated schools.

The historical park is owned and managed by the National Parks Service and is a good place to become familiar with the 1951 Brown v Board of Education court case.

There are two galleries here that explore the Civil Rights Movement before and after the landmark case, an auditorium where you can watch a short film about the history of racism and segregation in the United States, and a kindergarten that looks just as it did in 1954.

Park hours are Tuesday through Saturday 9am to 5pm. The park is closed on Sunday and Monday. Admission is free.
